A co-founder of Carvajal & Nielsen, Attorney Carvajal represents clients in criminal defense cases, housing and employment discrimination, and landlord-tenant disputes. He has experience handling cases in a variety of judicial forums.
Before founding Carvajal & Nielsen, he was a senior attorney with the Legal Assistance Corporation of Central Massachusetts, where he represented plaintiffs in fair housing and employment discrimination cases in State and Federal Court, and before the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination.
He began his legal career as a staff attorney at the Legal Assistance Corporation of Central Massachusetts after graduating from the Suffolk University School of Law and became a senior attorney. He earned his bachelor’s degree at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell.
He is admitted to the bar of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the U.S. District Court and the U.S. Supreme Court. He is a member of the Hampden County Bar Association and the Worcester County Bar Association.
Before co-founding Carvajal & Nielsen in 2007, Attorney Nielsen served as a staff attorney at the Legal Assistance Corporation of Central Massachusetts for more than six years.
She received the YWCA Katherine Erskine Award in 2007 and was named the Equal Justice Legal Services Advocate of the Year in 2004.
She began her legal career as a temporary contract attorney at the Law Registry/Day, Berry & Howard, LLP in Hartford, Conn. She also was an interim coordinator at The Center for Human Development, HIV/AIDS Law Consortium of Western Massachusetts in Holyoke and served as a volunteer intern at the Domestic Violence Unit of the Hampden County District Attorney’s Office in Springfield.
She earned her law degree from the Western New England College School of Law and her bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. She has also served as an adjunct professor in the Political Science Department at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell.
She is admitted to the bar of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the U.S. District Court and the U.S. Supreme Court. She is a member of the Hampden County Bar Association and the Worcester County Bar Association.
